If it were me, I'd get something made by someone that makes a better line of bows. I think that probably the best you could get in that price range would be something like a PSE Nova. They're less than $300 and the customer service of the company is unmatched. NO, I don't shoot a PSE but did for 25 years. The Nova comes with multiple cams so you can change the draw weight over a 20 pound range. I think they're 40-60 and maybe 50-70 or something like that. Buying a bow for under $300 leaves you with money for arrows, releases, quivers etc. I believe they also offer a starter set. I'd buy my own quiver and things though. You can pick up a Kwickee Quiver for almost nothing compared to the high priced factory ones. Bear sucks. It's not what it used to be.

There are generally lot's of slightly used bows at local pro shops that can be had for a fair price. Some guys buy a new bow every year or two so there is usually a good supply of "newer" used bows on the market.

I bought a Martin jag mag cat! I love it! The mag cat and all the fixin's,(quiver, release, whisker biskit, and a half dozen arrows) came to just about $500 at Dick's! Only problem I've noticed is the string is not the greatest, but it worked just fine for me this year, and I will replace it before next year!

Of course it is best to shoot the bow before you buy it, but if you are looking for a good deal then you can't be to picky.

The best thing to do is go try some different bows, see which one you like the best, some places have some set up to try, thats what I would do.

I actually shot a PSE Nova and couldn't agree more, they are a great stared bow...I actually still have it, don't hunt with it, but still shoot just in case my other bow gets messed up somehow.

The pse nova was my third compound bow and I killed my first buck with it,looking back I wish I would have just baught a better bow to begin with and save money moving from bow to bow until I finally end up with the oneI want.My advice would be buy it once and be done with it.but like 75% of the other archers here I can`t help but lust after the latest edition. The new constitution by bowtech has me drooling,it`s not the funky look of the other new ones but it`s what I WANT
