Not unusual this time of year. I know of two instances here locally. One, a guy climbed in a pen where a good buck was on a dare one night, he didn't get killed but was beat up pretty heavily.

One a second instance, I work for a utility company. I made a house call to an old farm. I walked across the yard full of junk metal and such and knocked on the door. I didn't get an answer and walked back to my van. I was walking back across the yard when I spotted movement just to my left and as the whitetail buck focused in my eyes not ten yards away I jumped which jumped him up. He was dog chained and I don't know how I walked by him twice without seeing him. Anyway I calmed down and so did the deer so I approached him and was scratching his head between his big 8 point frame. The owner finally came out and startled me when he said " I wouldn't do that".....I calmly said oh yeah? The owner told me that deer broke that chain on two occassions and pinned against the shed and his antlers penetrated his jeans into his flesh....I stopped "petting" the buck. I hated seeing him on a chain tho. I did the service call and left.

Evidently he felt the guy was moving in on his harem. What they get for keeping em penned up! My thoughts anyway!

I read that this morning. That would suck.
Good thing for all the PA boys that sheep don't attack like that.[:-]

Sheep will attack! I had a ram that knocked me down more than once. You could pet him and then walk away and he would get you from behind. He went to the sale.

Rob, I have no idea how that deer hasn't broken his neck yet. Deer go crazy when they are restricted like that, and usually just keep fighting it until they kill themselves. The last injured fawn that we got to nurse back to health was a good example of this. Instead of constructing a little pen, I got the bright idea to put him on a dog trolley. After a few front flips, back flips, and getting in a tangle I came to the conclusion that deer need to roam. He was only a few days old at the time.
