Another Lone Wolf Question. Climber -vs-Fixed.
Thanks to all who responded to my last post on Lone Wolf. Bear with me here. The more I think this thru and the investment the more I question my thoughts!
After reviewing Bowsite.com per SAG's suggestion I wonder what makes a person decide on climbing -vs- fixed. With Lone Wolf one has the option of the fixed with climbing sticks also. I'm thinking this would allow more versatility in tree choices?? But then if tree choices aren't a problem why have to mess with sticks?? How do you choose one over the other. They both sound great!!! Some folks sound as if they get both. But if choosing one how do you decide???? Is it based allot on what you've used in the past and are most comfortable with?
Also,...anyone farmiliar with the Lone Wolf sticks?? Or any for that matter?? How hard are they to set up? I would think one would need 3-4 pair to get 15' up???
Lots of questions!!! Thanks folks for the input!

Twang,
Sounds like you already have it figured out pretty well.
I prefer the climber because of the convenience. You just strap it on the tree and climb.
No extra sticks to have to carry around.
But your point about not having a suitable tree for a climber is a valid one and a good reason for having the sticks.
"Versatility" as you say.
Have you thought about getting a climber/sticks combination ?
The climber, of course, would weigh more than a fixed stand with sticks.
But the Lone Wolf climber is still pretty light and you could then use it for trees you couldn't normally climb by using the sticks with it.
Your choice also depends on if you hunt one property or several.
If you hunt one propety, you should already know if there are trees on it suitable for a climber in the areas you hunt.
But if you hunt several different farms or new areas you might prefer the fixed stand with sticks so you won't get caught with nothing suitable to climb.

RE: Another Lone Wolf Question. Climber -vs-Fixed.
The question for me Twang is simple. I own both, several climbers and several fixed position stands....however
If I were to own only one, it would be a climber stand.
Like Sag said, you can always use a climber as a fixed position stand with sticks or steps but you can't use a fixed position stand as a climber without the sticks or steps.
The versatility of a climber makes it a much better choice for all around use.

Sag and Rob gave you very good advice Twang. I also use fixed stands as well as my climber, but due to various circumstances and moving around quite a bit this season I found myself using my climber much more. And yes, depending on the wooded area you hunt sometimes its difficult to find a suitable tree to use the climber on, but I saw lots of deer from my climber this and passed up many shot opportunities.

RE: Another Lone Wolf Question. Climber -vs-Fixed.
I personally like the lone wolf fixed with the lone wolf climbing sticks. They are great. They're easy and fast to put up. It just depends on what type of trees you hunt from. I like to get up in a tree with cover like a pine. It is hard to use a climber in these cases.
