There wouldn't be any rationalizing, I took the deer to fill two things, my freezer and my tag.
Yeah sure, I could shoot a doe rifle hunting for this, BUT I'm not going to lie, it is a lot more of a rush shooting a small buck with a bow than drilling a doe at 200 yds with a rifle.

Hey I won't argue with you if you herd up spotted fawns and stick 'em with tridens if it's legal in your state......
Just do it for the right reasons......and "cause I want to" is legitimate.
You ARE gonna rub some people the wrong way by stating you just wanna kill "A" buck, though. Just be prepared.
Jeff
Good luck....and take pictures! I'll congratulate you.

And I respect that. The only reason I wanted to ask is because I questioned mysellf if it made any sense to pass them all year, but take one at the end.
Regardless, I'm going to take a deer to fill the freezer. Let's put it this way.....you've been passing up the small bucks all year, you want to take a deer for the meat. It is the last day of the season, the last hour of daylight. A young buck comes in chasing a doe. They both stop 20 yrds away broadside. You want one ofthem for the meat, but what one would you shoot.
I respect everyones opinion and amnotoffended by anyones reply's.Believe me, I'm thefirst to understand theopinions are like a$$holes, everyonehas one.

I would shoot a small buck without a doubt in a few different situations. Moving away, last day of season, having not gotten anything for a season or two, or even because younger deer taste better. It is not a crime in MN to shoot a young buck, so why not as long as you appreciate what you harvest.
