Who sits all day????

RE: Who sits all day????
That is usually what I do. My wife thinks I'm crazy, but if I get to go hunting, and I don't have to be anywhere or have other hunters with me that can't or won't stay out, I stay all day. I will be in the stand before day break, and come out at dusk. When I cannot see the deer decent or see my sights well, I leave. I will not take a poor or low percentage shot. At that rate, it is not unusual for me to put in 12 hours on a stand. I work a 12 hour shift at work, and I like hunting a lot more than working, so why not......

I'm thinking I'm going into the little woodlot (where I shot the piebald, Tuesday) with my son on Saturday morning......and probably just hunt with him until HE wants to come down.
Then.....we'll walk home (about.....oh....1/4 mile at MOST).....and eat lunch and drop the kids off at the pool.
Then.....over to the honey hole (1/2 mile walk) for an all-afternoon sit (assuming one of us doesn't score in the morning.....and still go if HE does, only). I want a big buck!

I'll sit all day if I think I'm in a good position, and I have all day to hunt (rare). Usually, with work and other obligations, I only get to do morning hunts or evening hunts. Almost never both in the same day. BUT, when I do, I'm not averse to sitting dark-to-dark if I have some food and a drink. The colder it gets, the harder it gets, because you get cold and HUNGRY.

I do it a few times each year. This year I've been really after the deer and have done it about 4 times. Opening weekend I sat 14 hours on Sunday and 11.5 hours on Monday. The next weekend I took it a little easier though.

Have done so in the past and will again very soon. Will be on leave 2-15 November and plan to spend at least 5 solid days in the stand...all day long if need be.

I would have to say that i could sit all day, if i had the right stand. I'm like a couple of you trying to make a cheap stand comfortable. I will be using a new stand this year, I would have to say that for me it depends on what season it is? If you are talking about Bow season i usually sit for about 4 hours in the morning the normal peak movement times, then i sit for about 3 hours in the afternoon. If it is gun deer season i will sit for probably about 5 hours a day, then i have to get down and stretch if i dont have my deer already.

I only sit all day if I see the bucks are in full chase phase, I hunt a funnel and sooner or later the does come thru. The only problem is sometimes its tough to get them stopped when their on a hot doe. It's tough to do especially if its slow. If I don't stay all day I at least stay til I think the other hunters have come in for lunch. Many times they will push them right into your lap

RE: Who sits all day????
Sitting in a stand is my preferred method. From dawn to dusk. I use perminent stands, so location is absolutely critical. I like funnels the best. I do sit all day if necessary. Nothing better as far as I'm concerned. My stands are pretty big with multiple seats, blinds and so on. They are also up pretty high so scent control is usually not a problem. I take everything I need to spend the day with out coming down. I've gotten to see some pretty cool stuff in the woods using this method. But it does take a lot of patience. However, onceI'd seen what can happen with this type of hunting, i feel like I'm screwing up my hunt by getting down and walking.
My other favorite, which I don't get to do often is track a buck in the snow! Talk about cool...
