My 4 year old son and the six point buck
Last week after my 4 year old son, Hunter, finished his afternoon nap we packed up our hunting blind, bow, snacks, a coloring book and crayons and headed for a field edge with a perfect south wind blowing in our faces. Shortly after setting up and brushing in the blind the chipmunks and squirrels came around to inspect the new addition to thier hedgerow. This wasHunter's second hunt ever and he was very excited to see the little crittersso close. A short while later a racoon come down an old maple to begin his nightly prowl and14 turkeys entered the field and fed near our location for about 30 minutes before moving toward the eveningroost area. After finishing a baggie of goldfish crackers and a juicebox, Hunterand I colored Snoopy and Charlie Brown while checking the field every few minutes. About 45 minutes before last shooting light a 6 pt., 4 pt., 2 does and a fawn entered the field across from our setup. I was actually hoping one of thedoes would come in for a shot, but what happened next was the best hunt I have ever experienced. I grunted at the bucks with little reaction. Theyfed away from us and then the 4 and 6 started sparring. Sparring turned into an allout fight which Hunter was taking in with wide-eyed wonder. Following the fight I grunted again and let Hunter grunt once. The 6 pt. laid his ears back and started walking stiff legged toward the blind. He stopped at a scrape about 15 yds. away and smelled it before investigating the grunt's origin. I was at full draw 2 times during the encounterand Hunter was very good to be still and quiet. The buck finally walked in front of the blind and I sent aMuzzy into both lungs at 10 yards. I told Hunter "I got himbuddy!" Hunter stood up and we watched the buck fall across the field. Hunter turned to me pumping his fists in the air, screaming "We did it Dad, we did it!" "We got a buck!"After hugging, high fiving and a few tears from Dadwe went to seeour "trophy." When we approached the buck I showed Hunter how to make sure the deer is dead. After I told him it was ok to come look at it he walked over and with a big grin he said "He's a dandy, dad", as only a four year old could say it.
This hunt just tied the hunt of my first deer with my dad for the best hunt ever!

Awesome! I can't wait for that... my little 4 year old doesn't have an "indoors" voice developed yet, so I'm giving him another year or two. LOL He loves everything about hunting and we've even let him shoot his sister's little .22... he REALLY loved that, the little bugger was more than willing to shoot the .410, but as we set him up to look through the scope, we realized he wasn't quite ready for it.
Congrats to you and your little man!
I can't wait to see the pictures!

That is so awesome!, congrats, I can't wait untill sat. It's MO. youth rifle season. And I'm taking my oldest Brandon, hopefully he'll get his 2nd deer. Last year he got a nice young buck. Hopefully we'll get lucky again. Congrats again, and thanks for sharing that, it was great!
