State land hunting: who does it? I do.

I definitely hunt public land, I've killed deer the past 3 seasons on state land. The trick I've found is to set your stand about 40 yards from the roads. In my area, guys will hike way back in the middle of the property to get to "no man's land" and the deer continue to use the roads as travel routes.

Got that right.Great time of the year to lose weight. I'm starting to actually like hunting public land. If you plan to harvest a buck or hog it will make a good hunter out of you. I usually study the online Goggle map. From there I fixate myself on one square mile { And like you said, away from the other hunters.} I got drawn for a muzzleloader outing next week. I don't apply for the big WMAs.I apply for the ones that only allow 20 hunters. I got pulled.lucky
The place is brand new to me. I plan to scout tomorrow morning after church. The gate will be locked so I'll go quite a ways on bicycle. I was already out there once. The place is 50 miles away. It's called River Ranch.I have 2 days to score with a muzzle loader.
