Web site that shows where to aim for a good hit?
I thought there were only 2 shots you should try for a whitetail.Broadside and quartering away chest shot.I was watching a hunting show and the bowhunter shot his deer as it was coming towards him at an angle. The arrow went in left side of the brisket, high almost where the neck and body join and exited out of the right side of the deer.It only ran 40 yards at the most before it fell over dead.Is that a high percentage kill shot?

go to http://www.whitetaildeer.com/howto/shot/
That sould answer some of your questions.
In regards to the show...I sometimes think that they have a sniper somewhere finishing off the animal.
I have seen too many marginal shots taken by tv hunters. All of them have worked (on TV). <img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle>
Doubt that they will in the real world.

While a head on shot like you described can be deadly, it is NOT a high percentage shot. Lot's of bone to contend with, plus the bone is curve increasing the potential to veer and arrow off course. However if you know just where to aim and can make the shot, it is lethal. For most of us, it is very risky shot.

Thanks fellow hunters that's just what I needed to know.I think your right about them having a snyper around to finish the deer off.The same guy shot broadside at a deer. The arrow hit higher than I would have liked. So high that I'm sure he missed the lungs completly. The deer fell instantly to the ground so he must have hit the spinal cord.
