If I'm in a ladder stand, I rarely wear one, maybe only if it is snowy and icy.
In a hang-on or climber, I always wear one. I guess I have faith in myself but worry about stand failure in the hang-ons and climbers. In a ladder stand, your weight is transferred to the ground and not relying on friction or chains or ratchet straps. I worked on roofs and scaffolds and pump jacks in a former life, so I am quite confident in my abilities. Always wearing one is probably best for your families sake. Just get used to it and do it.
