Default how far is to far?

I was recently shown a new spot, with alot of acreage. I was told the front half is hunted very heavily. So I would be better off hunting the back end of the property. I took a pedometer with me the other day and it is 1.7 miles to the stand. To add to this there are 2 very steep hills to go up and down. Would you walk this far back? How far is to far?

Hmm, good question. 2 miles is a heck of a walk through the PA woods. I'd be more concerned with having to drag a deer that far out of the woods. If possible I'd be looking into buying an ATV.

On this piece of land ATV's are not allowed. I was thinking the same thing. Jeramy

ATV? What did the pioneers ever do without them? Gees, just bone the thing out and throw it in a pack. You're lucky if you only have to hike 2 miles around here, and two hills? How about two mountains?!

I hunt some stand that are les than 100 yards from a road, I hunt others that are 2 miles or more. Go where the deer are and the people ain't. Sometimes it's closer than you think.

I enjoy walking a long way... As long as the weather is resonable. When we take our trip to Pope County, IL we generally tak a whole day out in the woods

Doesn't matter to me how far I have to go to get away from other hunters that want to hunt the same land.
I have two stands one is about 1 & 1/2 mile out and the other is almost 3 miles.

This iswhy I think, to be a true hunter you need to be in decent shape. If hunting was easy, it would be called killing.

To pack a little 'ol whitetail out of the woods, 2 miles wouldn't be bad. We pack elk out of the mountains that far, and we're up around 10,000+' when we do it.

Sure thats easy for you to say. I now live in Illinois. However, I used to live in WV and hunted there my whole life. Trust me a two mile walk in Illinois is cake compared to PA or WV.
