With the experience I now have, no. When I first started bowhunting, yes. But I did a lot of dumb things when I first started. LOL. Low percentage shot with bow and you'd feel worse wounding and not getting than you would not taking the shot. If you don't take the shot then, in your mind, he's always out there waiting to give you another chance. If you hit and don't recover, in your mind, he's coyote food and mice are eating the antlers. Which do you want in your mind?

I read the article in bowhunter and it said on a ELK this was a very good shot, several people with experience with elk say its a good shot. there's a huge difference between an elk and deer in the size of this kill zone. Supposedly its a 6 inch circle. If you get the arrow into the body at that angle in that circle you will take out:
- heart or arteries coming out of heart, ie ALOT of blood pouring out and quick death
- 1 lung
- liver
- guts (if you go that far)
Not sure if I would take it on an elk, I have talked with a couple outfitters and the recommendations go both ways.
