I like the idea of that tradition and my wife likes me in a beard, but I play with it too much. Also, I like to wear a "misquito net" camo headcover until it gets cold. I have really wiry hair, and every time I turn my head to look around, my beard scratches against the headcover and I can't hear anything, soI don't like it when I'm hunting.

I wear a uniform at work so it is not permitted but when I take a vacation durring hunting season I don't shave. It gets long after not doing it for one week. My dad still carries on the tradition of not shaving till he gets a deer.

I have never actually had a bonified "beard." I don't like to shave so I hit the in-between stages often.
I have however grown out my fro for huntin season before, because it actually keeps my head warmer.
Plus, if I forget my hat I can just stick twigs and brush from around me into my hair and use it as camoflauge.

Beards happen... used to have a job that I had to shave every day for, the boss came in one evening right before closing and asked someone else there why Anthony hadn't shaved that day... I had, I can't do that clean shave look much past 7-8 hours... after that scruff is already there..Can't grow a lick on top of my head though
