I messed up, I think
so, I was sitting on the ground with little cover but I was wearing a face mask and full cammo doused in scent killer. Not expecting to see anything, I look up to see a calf and cow elk. They were approaching from right to left and I thought I would draw when they were behind the last tree to be able to release and get my first elk. When I drew the bow, They must have heard me. They stared for 10 minutes and I finally had to slowly let the bow back. They walked around and looked at me never giving me another shot. I am only guessing I should have waited until they were right where I needed them to draw. Any thoughts?

I bet it wasn't really 10 minutes but it probably felt like it.
I'd work on quieting down your bow or your clothes or whatever made the noise so they won't hear you draw next time.

Well, It might have been less than 10 minutes, but not by much. My bow is set at 70 pounds and I have the let off at 75% according to the dudes at the archery shop. They suprisingly did not bolt when I let off. They were about 35 yards away. It was opening day, I dont think they had too much reason to be suspicious. I clearly should have waited, and I now prefer the whisker biscuit. The drop away makes the slightest noise when the arrow is drawnonto the fork. It is covered with felt, but they're sense of hearing is keen. I just need to relax and think it through next time. EJ

If you are going to hold a bow back for 10 minutes I might just go ahead and practice that! lol.
Ok, for $hits and giggles lets just call it 7 minutes.
Please report back on your accuracy.
