I hunt in northern WI. I try and hunt on a travel route to a food source. I have hunted the swamps and have seen some huge bucks. I try to hunt the edges of the swamp at the bottom ofa ridge. I find they are a little more productive in rut as well as once the snow hits.

I hunt in Southeastern Wisconsin. Im 17 ft up as well, only im up in an Oak. Im hunting a ridge that is located in between a bean field and a corn field. The ridge provides me a vantage point of deer either going out or coming in to feed.

I'm from SE Wis and hunt here as well as around the Mauston area. I also hunt Ill. My best tactic during the rut is to set up in a funnel between 2 doe bedding areas. Good luck.

I work in Wisconsin but hunt/live in Iowa.
I would think it would be the same as anywhere else.
Hunt the food early season
Hunt the does in the rut, that's where the bucks will be.
Funnels
Trails leading to and from bedding areas

I hunt Buffalo Co.now and Shawano for a couple years before that. With the bow season being 3.5 months long, having multiple stands for hunting the wind, not over hunting any particular stand and a couple dedicated rut stands is helpful.

I'll try to help you out. I hunt in the Counties of Buffalo and Trempealeau Wisconsin. Early on in the year, I only hunt the evenings. I do this for a few reasons. First, in my opinion you will see a lot more deer in the evening early on in the season. Second, this will lower the hunting pressure on the deer. Early on in the season, I suggest you hunt the fields and the wood edges. If you do your scouting, you will be able to pattern the deer and their routine early on in the season.
During the rut I suggest you hunt the does. If you find the does, the big bucks won't be to far behind. Hope this helped.
