bagem, its been a while since my calc based physics classes, but are you seperating horizontal and vertical initial velocities into 2 vectors before doing your math? and since there is a horizontal acceleration of 0 and a veritcal acceleration of 9.8m/s2 -no matter which direction you fire the arrow - i'm not getting how gravity affects poidifferently no matter which way you fire the arrow. the arrow is still shot with an initial vertical and horizontal velocity since the sight pin and the arrow are not on the same, um, what do you call it? line? and gravity does not affect horizontal velocity at all. anyway, i'm curious to the answer, and if i can still understand it. sylvan - where are you?

The key principle to remember is that angle between thevector representing gravity's effect and arrow's direction of travel is less than perependicular when shooting upor down hill. Therefore, gravity's effect on the arrow's trajectory is less pronounced relative to the line of sight on uphill/downhill shots.

In other words, when you're on level ground, gravity acts perpendicular to the line of sight and the arrow's direction of travel. So, it's affect is most pronounced.

With bagem's formula's you can see that the effect is minimal with most tree stand heights - especially if you maintain your form and do some realistic treestand practice.

I always bend at the waist and use the horizontal distance from the base of the tree to the target and It's the same as shooting from the ground. It always looks farther than it really is. They tell you to bend at the waist to maintain proper form when you shoot.
