I hate to burst your bubble but this week on Deer and Deer hunting they talked about deer dispersal and guess what, if they are male fawns they will be miles away by the time they are 1 1/2 years old. They said that betweent he mothers chasing them off and competition from existing bucks the little guys travel up to 20 miles to find new territory.
This got me to thinking about when everyone chirps about QDM:
1. obviously age and nutrition are whats going to get a buck to get big antlers but
2. How can genetic management have any control when regardless of the deer you have on your property (175 inch monster) his male fawns are somewhere in the next county when they grow up. I guess the only way that culling inferior bucks can have any bearing on genetics is in one of those highfench ranches in texas or something where over time eventually you may get the genetics better by culling but in the real free ranging world i can't see it happening or having any impact.

well there arent many bucks on my property as of right now....mainly three does that I know of...and on ebuck that I know of...i hope they stay around cause it would be very neat to see how they progress..
