Bowfever

I was off this past week and hunted every day in Nicholas county. The weather sucked as it rained every day and night with very brief stops here and there. Saturday was the only good day. The deer were not moving due to the weather (I believe). I did see lots of rubs but only 1 scrape. It was the worst (hunting) week I've had in years.

Best to be in the woods and anticipating than staying home and wondering. After all deer do live in the woods.....So many deer so little time here in Ritchie County. Good Luck to all.......

5shot i live about 10 minutes from elkins ans hunt near huttonsville i killed a buck yesterday evening about 4:00 they are moving early now but when the moon was full it was almost dark I saw my first rubs yesterday i think things will pick up soon

Mike, I am from wyoming county, but now live in Virginia. I try to make it up to elkins once a year to bowhunt. I hunt national forest near ottercreek and bear haven campgrounds, as well as some around Millcreek. We managed to kill two does while we were up their, but it was tough hunting. I got mine in the pouring rain and winds, and my brother got his while hunting in the middle of a bedding area. I wish I would have scheduled for a week later though.

Went hunting this morning, and at 8:00 had a non typical 6 point come grunting my way at 25 yards. I had out some james valley estrous lure and he was smelling it, but was looking in my direction so I couldnt get a shot. By the time he turns, I get drawn back, release and shoot right over his back! Forgot to use my kisser button and just used my peep! <img src=icon_smile_blush.gif border=0 align=middle>

This morning I saw 8 does feeding with their tails up....but no sign of chasing....can't be too far off........

SpringGobbler- Me and my hunting partner hunted from daylight till dark in the rain no less and never saw the first deer!!! It's not unusual for us not to see a deer during an all day hunt but heck this has been going on for weeks. The thing that has me worried most is I have yet to see any rubs or scrapes. I have checked with other hunters that hunt these bow hunting only counties and they are saying the same thing. Ridges were you normally would see 10-15 rubs and scrapes are void of any deer sign. Man I hope things pick up soon because if not it's going to be a long November for me because I don't go back to work until Dec 1st and I will hunt everyday until then deer or no deer! HAHA

A friend called me tonight and had a 6 point chasing 8 does around
his stand for an hour. He said the buck was grunting and had his
nose to the ground most of the time. Guess his feeder was the ticket
to holding the does close by. This happened this evening 11-04 in
Garrett Co. Maryland very close to the Preston Co. WV. line. I have
been hunting myself in Grant and Tucker Co. WV. and have only seen
a couple fresh rubs and have yet to find any scrapes at all. As too
his hunt, the 6 point never offered a shot, he was too busy chasing
the does around. Wish I had that problem.
