A 20 year record shattered........Almost!
Sitting in my stand yesterday afternoon, and I got to thinking. I Killed my first deer in 1982, and with a bow no less. Since then I haved killed at least one every year since with a bow, till this year. I just havent put the time and effort into it that I usually do. One time before, in 1994, I almost went dry, killing a mature doe on the very last day in the very last hour.
While sitting and thinking, I had decided that this was probably gonna be the dry year.
About an hour before dark two "fryers" came by me and started eating acorns 30 yards to my right. I kept thinking "where is your momma?" because she is what I wanted. 20 minutes later I caught movement below me and thought "there she is!" WRONG. As soon as this deer stepped clear I knew it wasnt their momma but quite possibly their DADDY.
When he turned broadside at 24 yards I sent a 100 gr. Thunderhead through both lungs and out the other side. He ran about 50 yards and I watched him fall.
He is my best bow buck yet. 9 pts, 14in. inside spread, 18 1/2in. main beams. All in all, a good 2 1/2 yr. old I probably should have left, but I COULDN'T HELP MYSELF!
