They'll smell your buggers just as easily as they will the face paint.....
Yup , paint isn't "odorless" to them . Mature bucks don't take chances with any foreign odor .

Heck, we could sometimes smell Sir Charles and he could smell us. I'd say the smell of face paint is the least of your worries. You should be worried about breath, sweat and plain old people stink. Hunt the wind grasshopper. Put on your war paint if you want.

Deer are tuned into human odor. That crayon smell is not a human odor. Some guys pee right off their treestands with no ill effects. I know a guy who smokes on stand and kills lots of deer.
I'm not sure about face paint - I've never used it, but will wear a face net when turkey hunting and close up deer hunting in the brush.

As far as knowning a guy who smokes, I got one better.... I know a guy who smokes a pipe {no, not that kind of pipe } and uses some kind of vanilla flavored, wierd kind of pipe tobacco - and seen and killed deer all the time. ...Go figure.

I would certainly agree they can smell it, but so what? 2 things. If they can smell your facepaint, they can smell YOU, and there's the problem. I doubt they associate the face paint w/ danger, afterall......they don't know it's facepaint being worn by a bowhunter who's trying to kill them.
