Default hunting superstores or small businesses?

Hey Guys. I was wondering, when you go to buy to equipment do you usually purchase from the big superstores like Cabela's or do you support the small local stores and shops? I am doing a persuasive essay on it in school so any help would be great. Just need reasons to support the small shops. I personally like to support the shops because they are very knowledgeable in helping with whatever I'm looking at and they need to make a good living too. Where do you normally buy from?

Good topic Matthew,

I do try to make as many purchases at local small businesses whenever possible. The times that I don't is when I can save a significant amount of money through a catalog or on ebay.

Supporting local businesses such as archery shops contributes to not only the local economy but also the local culture. In areas such as mine where hunting is not a way of life for the vast majority of residents, it is important to maintain these cultural centers where like minded people can meet, share and even introduce our way of life with others.

i get all of my guns, gun accessories, bows and accessoresand most of my ammo from small stores. i do however buy most of my camo and other hunting supplies from big stores such as bass pro and wall mart. i don't mind the sligtly higher prices of small stores for guns and everything, but the big stores do provide lower prices on things that i buy often or yearly. this is very true when you decide to buy all new equipment.

I like to buy all my stuff at my local shop because they have served me well, and they need to make a living too.The only time i go to Bass Pro is when i am onmy way to the woods and need some thing now, then i will go there, and then they usually end up not having it in stock anyway[&:]

I spread my dollars everywhere I can...LOL Seems too many people are getting way too much of it and I need to keep a little for myself.

I've preached on here for years to support the little guys. I see too many of them come and go and it's a shame when it's a good guy.

Most of the things I buy I get at the bigger retailers like Gander Mtn. or Cabela's & sometimes WalMart. When I need to get something,I pretty much know exactly what I want so I look for the best deal-and that's usually the bigger stores.

I try and buy all of my major stuff at local shops, because that's where a guy gets the best service...at least you hope to.

For the run of the mill stuff, I shop where I can get my best price. I don't have enough $$ to be throwing it to little shops all the time. A guy would go broke paying for some of the stuff.

I support my pro shop whenever possible. One, Rich has been very good to me over the years, and 2, I work there.

I'm not afraid to spend some of my hard earned dollars at BassPro either though.

Well if I was to buy a bow or need custom arrows, I would definately go to the local guys where I could try them and see them and feel them. But by far it is more exspensive at the local guys. Guess that is part of business and buying but when you work hard for a dollar, well for me, I want it to go as far as it will. I need to set up another bow when I get home and will check the local guys and maybe buy with some price comparison, but I am not going to pay lots more, travel to it some a nice piece away, when the Gander Mountain might have it cheaper....

I use the pro shops as much as possible for buying my equipment. Buying camo is another matter. Many shops don't carry camo clothing or footwear. In that case I utilize the local Gander Mtn. or perhaps use Cabelas because they are a sporting goods store and I don't consider Walmart and the likes a sporting goods store.
