how high

RE: how high
It depends on the tree, the cover, and the surrounding trees. I climb until I feel comfortable that I am a hight that will present good shooting lanes, good field of vision and appropriate cover. To put a number on it I would say usualy 15 to 18 feet, rarely have I been over 20.

RE: how high
anything over 10 feet is good enough. You can call me crazy, but I spent 3 days last week hunting out of a 10 ft tall stand in Missouri, and deer walked right under me every day. The stand is located on a great place, lots of trees around it, and plenty of shots available. 2 does in three days. My rest squeaked when a buck came by so he was extremely nervous after that and ran 20 yards to where I could not get a shot before he stopped to find out what the noise was...
I climb anywhere between 12-15 feet with my climbing stand and most of the stands I use are around that height, but the good ol' 10 ft stand delivers 90% of the time!

RE: how high
During bow I hunt between 20 to 30 feet depending on obstructions. During rifle I'll go 30 to 35 feet in the woods and if I'm hunting the cutover I go 50 feet. It's amazing what you can see from up there.

RE: how high
For me 16-20 ft. 30 ft is A LONG WAYS UP - too high for most of my hunting area (treetops block out sight). I don't even like 20ft for bow, the angle is too steep on close shots.
