Default Stands on ebay??

What do you all think about buying tree stands on ebay?? It says new in box and comes with everything that it is supposed to. They are offering free shipping and still beat Cabelas or Bass pro prices. The seller has a flawless rating. The are asking 289.00. Would any of you guys and gals buy a stand on ebay? Give me your thoughts....

I have bought stuff on ebay before that was labeled new and factory sealed, and that is the way I got it. Not tree stands though. But if the seller has a good reputation, I would not be afraid to.

I can see buying golf clubs or other sporting goods items from Ebay but not guns, bows or treestands. Has the box ever been opened? If it has I wouldn't take the risk. Let's face it, this is something that you are going to sit in while you are 12 - 20 feet off of the ground.

I agree with Bobco19-65 if the seller has a good reputation and the add says that the tree stand is new in the box then I'd buy it. Use common sense when you get it though and inspect it before you hang it in a tree, like you would for any product regardless of where you buy it. I've bought stuff from e-bay in the past and never had a bad experience.

go for it...I buy lots of thing on e-bay. One bad experiance on a cemera. If the guy has a good rating go for it. I bought a digital camera that still had factory seal on it, just like the ad said.

Something I actually know a little about.
I am a Product Manager for a well-known computer monitor manufacturer.

Many sellers on E-Bay are actual companies (mostly small) selling their product via the internet. They are not all your "average Joe's".

They may buy discontinued stock, over-supply items, quantity discount items...all "A" stock items, that the original manufactuer wanted to sell out, or they may purchase from resellers who took too large of a stock position from the manufacturer and through their terms and conditions can not return them to the manufacturer (sometimes manufacturers only allow up to 15% of their merchandise to be returned from their distribution partners). They may also buy merchandise from brokers, who either work with the manufacturer or distribution partner...still should be "A" stock.

On the otherhand, some people also will sell "B" stock (opened-package or refurbished). They buy these through the same channels as listed above. There is usually nothing wrong with these items either. They are of "A" stock quality, but can not be sold as NEW or "A" stock by law. Some times these are the best deals...however, check if the original manufacturer's warranty still applies. (sometimes "B" stock may have a 1 year warranty, while the "A" stock has a 3 year warranty for example.)

And on the third-hand, there are some guys out there that are not doing either (they are the scum many refer to). And that's where you need to be careful. I have heard that you should take into consideration their ratings and that the most secure way to purchase is through PayPal (NOT a certified check)! I am not an expert on this part of the equation, this is only what I have been told.

A friend's son ordered an item and paid with certified check. The seller was a scam artist and got his money...and did not send the item of course. Either Yahoo or EBay told the friend that they can not check the background of every seller...they suggested to use PayPal in the future since PayPal does the background check and knows who the seller (or buyer) is and where their bank accounts are. There is a chance for remedy in these situations.

Hope this helps.

I bought a treestand om ebay last year and had no problems. Stand arrived on time with all the parts, instructions and in excellent condition...and I got it $95 cheaper than Cabela's or Bass Pro. make sure you check the feedback though, some are a little shady.

Ebay is the first place I look if I know the exact brand ...make and model of an item I'am looking for. I've bought item's that cost hundreds of dollars and sold items that were priced hundreds of dollars and had no problems. If you want to see the personal feedback on the seller before you purchase put your mouse on the number behind their name and click your mouse. My standard is a person with a minimum number of 25 sales with "NO" ...NEGATIVE or Neutral feedback. If a person has all positive feedback on all their sales and you've read each word of their description and this is what you want "BUY IT".....if you have a question ask the seller "BEFORE" you buy it...I hope this help's you!!! GOOD LUCK

I just purchased a Bear River Myles Keller Climber last week, and It was new in the bow as advertised. It was 99, much under the price listed in Cabelas.

Ebay rules! <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

I got a PSE Centerflite 1000 (lefty) compound bow off Ebay for $75 bucks. Granted, the guy stripped it down (the sights, rest, quiver) to use on another bow, but, this PSE is perfectly aligned square and true. When I got it, I immediately took it up to the shop and they checked it all over thoroughly. I added about $75 more bucks to it to get it fully outfitted for me. No problems at all!

I would assume tree stands could be the same thing. Somone might get a new Summit climber, and auction off their old Ol' Man hang on stand, which is still in good shape. You never know. But, you really have to check people out on Ebay though. Some people can be real shady.
