boy o boy the threads you see in 3 years of being part of this site. kind of redundant. i think a lot of people are making jokes when they say "it was photoshopped". some arent, who cares. take it as a grain of salt

It seems to me that a post griping about all the griping going on here is not only redundant, but not the correct way to handle it. PM the mod of your choice and let them handle it.

It is also my finding that our forum has lost some of its maturity.
Without going into details, some of the threads over the last few months, for me at least is far below the level. Yes I know there's all kinds and we're not all alike, but somehow, somewhere we should maintain our STANDARD.
Quite a few of the 'Ole Heads' are noticeably absent from the forum--guys who have over theyearscontributed so much knowledge and shared stories and pictures of a sport we all so dearly love. These days when I see athread posted (and this is now a rare occasion)by guys who have been known to make a difference--(for the better)on this forum, I come alive again---otherwise it's the Same Stuff Driffent Day.

It's not like we're takin them out behind the woodshed...
It's not so much a gripe as a call for calm and level headed debate. We are all(for the most part) adults... I have seen a few teenagers, but it seems that most of the flamers have been the brash 20somethings who think they can change the world by being the loudest, or the most condescending. I know I sometimes am guilty of this, but I do try to be civil when it comes to forum posts.
We should all respect the right to bear opinions of all members, but we should expect for ours to be respected as well. Golden rule applies here, as everywhere. If you don't know the Golden Rule, If memory serves, its in the ToC of HNI somewhere(i think)
There is always going to be a heckler. Someone who spouts off just to hear themselves talk, in some feeble attempt at self soothing their inferiority complex or just to stroke their own ego. There's nothing we can do about them. All we can worry about is ourselves. The Mod's will take care of what they can, but it's like asking the US to bear the burden of the World's poor.(exageration, yes... maybe even an unfair metaphor but you get the idea)
I guess it all goes back to the whole Golden Rule thing. I'll repect you, but I demand the same. But even if you do disrespect me, I'll still give you the respect of an apology if one is deserved. What you do to me is between you and God. All I'm allowed to worry about is MY actions.
Man this is a mammoth tirade. maybe I should take some of my own medicine. It doesnt taste good, but good medicine never does.

Davidmil,
I am new to bowhunting and it is a shame that someone with your experiences is being dischouraged from posting your insight because of constant critisism. That is what I believe these boards are for, to help everybody and to get more people involved in the sport. There have been several posts, in the 10 days that I have been a member, from people wanting to get into bowhunting and are hoping to learn from you guys that have been doing it for a while.
I have to agree with BDH, especially if all the bashing is causing legitamate and knowledgable hunters from posting their advice.
Just my 2cents.

IMO, I believe part of the problem is the fact that it is www.bowhunting.com. It is one of the first sites newbies or antis will type. I rarely see the same type posts on some of the other hunting sites I visit. During bow season this place becomes wounding.com with folks trying whatever they can to recover their deer. I hate it sometimes, but they are just trying to get some guidance on recovering their quarry. I try and help if I can, regardless of how many times I have read the same post.

RE: stop the bashing/photoshop comments
Ok, I've totally stayed out of this so far (which might surpise a few of you). Sometimes I like to have a good knock down drag out.... but usually with people who deserve it. (Like one who shall not be named, cuz I know that all he likes is the fame of stirring the pot.) Usually I don't like to make ethical criticisms unless I see something so blatant that it needs to be addressed. Such as those who don't care to use all of the animal, even if it could be donated to another family for use, because it was "too much work" to take the meat off of the shoulders or hams. For all of those who feel that they need to rip apart a person for every shot or what all should have been done to make a perfect hunt... ya'll need to cool down. Unless you were there, you don't know how every story would have played out. You might have made a worse "mistake" than the person who spoke about it in thefirst place. I will say that unless I feel that something has been done blatantly or out of ignorance then the point could be made by addressing the person about your concerns without jumping down theirthroat. Sometimes clarification is all that is needed. It's not like it's completely easy to paint a picture withwords. Some people do it betterthan others, but words can so easily be taken outof context and misconstrued even by the attitude of the reader. Save the butt-hole rippings for those who deserve them. The people who damage our sport by being nothing but arrow-flinging, unethical, or even blatant poachers. I've seen plentyof times wheresomeone talked about shooting their buddies deer just cuz it was there and his buddy couldn't have gottenone without his help. Well, as far as I've always known (and I am aBowhunter's Ed instructor, so I'm not all that stupid) the tag that you buy to hunt onlyhas one name on it.... yours. I don'tmind a knock down, drag out... when it's deserved. Save the nitpicking for your gossip session down at the local watering hole. Keep the good stuff going here!
