You read it correct. The Big 10 only took a month to get back as I left it Dec 10, 2005and had it back the end of Jan 06.

I fully admit to not knowing everything about taxidermy but from what I do understand of it there is no way an animal can be turned around that quickly and still last the test of time........most likely was done with some sort of quickie preservative. Just speaking from the conversations I have had with a few taxidermists on this subject.
The first buck also appears to be "smiling"........also a tell tale sign of inferior work.........again quoting the gentlemen I have spoken with.
My dad also had a Buck stolen from his house several years ago that is about 176 and valued at approx 6k. We know this because we got it back as the crook sold it to Bass Pro.
I think someone was having some fun with you because Bass Pro and other big stores wouldn't pay that for a buck mount.........in fact they ask for decorative mounts to be donated. A 176 buck is no where near "Wall of Fame" status at a Bass Pro so it would just be another rack over the Men's room or somthing like that.

RE: Mount Back ALREADY!
the BS about a mount only looks good if it takes a year to finish, is just that BS. plan and simple, most taxi's put 10-15 hours in a game head.
here is the schedule.
1. cape and meat flesh.2hrs
2. turn and salt.1hr
3. dry 2 -4 days as you do something else
4. rehydrate, 1hr
5.put in pickle min.
6. after 3 days thin hide 2hrs
7. after 1 more day rethin hide 1hr
8.then add your tan 1hr
9. after tan has set for 6-8 hours mount 2-3hrs
10.then after 2 weeks of drying finish 1hr
total time....11-13 hrs. thats it
now the reason some take longer is the simple fact that your mount is #135 to do this year! so there are 134 x13 hrs ahead of you!thats 1742 hrs then yours. at a 40 hr work week=43 weeks to get to yours. so next time you take a head to taxi ask him how many heads he has already for this year, and if he has completed last years mounts already. that will give you a good idea when yours will be completed.
just a little thought for you to ponder...
