This is why Ethical hunters get ragged on by conservationists and everyone else for hunting. Just because people want to kill we have the chance to loose our hunting privledge

I made a mistake in saying I thought it was a muscle hit. I meant to say lung because of the pattern of the "splatter." One splatter was sprayed to look exactly like a deer on the run with a lung wound. All the specs formed a funnel likepattern that was a foot long by 10 inches wide, heavy in the center and spraying outward. I really don't think a car or coyote could've done this although it is possible.

I don't know how much bucks bleed when they shed but I doubt they're spraying foot long patterns from the tops of their heads so it's unlikely from a shed imo.

There were noboot printsfollowing the deer's but I doubt the hunter wanted to drag a deer out of the woods nearly a month after the close of the season.

And finally, this is public land in a non DEZ unit. Besides, I don't think landowners can get a permit to hunt public land right?

I really think some either is still somewhere out there in those thousand acres or perhaps just popped it with a 22.

dohcrxl,
You are correct, landowners can NOT hunt public land. I guess I was just hopeful that it was just that. Based on what you have saidI would have to agree that it is a poacher. Did you call the DNR? Keep us posted as to what you find out.

Uhhh no, no one missing that made the news. It's likely not the case that I "left a hunter in the snow" because there were no boot prints, just deer tracks and blood.
