RE: Bowhunter Kills Car Thief
Not to worry. Just renewed my CWP for another 4 years and the officer/instructor was citing laws in different states. In Texas you can use lethal force to stop a car thief! No threat to life is needed. He told about a repo man shot with a high power rifle last year and the shooter was let off due to him thinking it was a car theif. In Arizona I would go to prison for doing this.

In N.C. you can't use "deadly force" on someone stealing your property unless you are in imediate danger of serious bodily harm or death. Kinda sucks to have to watch an unarmed theif drive off in your ride but that doesn't mean he won't carry a serious butt whoopin.
Sounds like this California hunter did us all a favor by eliminating a piece of trash. If stuff like this happened more often there would probably be alot less theft. I just hope this poor guy isn't charged with anything. He is in California!! <img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle>

Ballistictip- this happened in HarrisCounty- Houston- Republic of Texas.
Chances are- that if the guy didn't have a weapon or threaten the hunter the deputy sherrif supplied the weapon and the statement on the report.
We don't put up with anything in Texas.

Mike Bell, you and both know there will be a few of libbies who will want to do that.
I saw this story on our local news and it ticked me off the way the hunter was being treated. First off he is a black man(not that it matters) and his truck appeared to be a Chevy Avalanche. They showed a clip of him being led into the jail with hand cuffs on and his hands behind his back. A female officer had him by the arm and was leading him like he might break and run at any minute. Ok here is my gripe......I realize it is standard operating procedure to take him to the police station and question him to see if his story checks out. But having him handcuffed with his hands behind his back seemed like a little too much for me. I'd have thought they could have put the hand cuffs on with his hands in front of him. There were also reporters trying to ask him questions as his was being led into the jail and he kept saying "no comment" etc. Don't get me wrong, the guy may be walking the streets tomorrow but the way the clip was presented, it made him appear like the bad guy. As I was mentioning this to my wife, my phone rang and it was my brother. He was watching the same news and he was calling to gripe about the way the hunter was portrayed.
Just my 2 cents.

Anywhere else he might be in trouble but not in Texas. No way a Texas jury hangs him for shooting a car thief under any circumstances. And I agree. I don't think a man should have to just stand there and watch someone steal his car. If you choose to rob people for a living the posability they may catch you in the act and shoot your a$$ is a risk you take as far as I'm concerned. Sort of an occupational hazzard so to speak.
