Wow........it was Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad.

It was "ladies night" or something like that on the Outdoor Channel. The show was all ladies taking bow deer.........which I really have no problem with at all.....but this show had a pretty scarey clip in it.

Let me start off by saying that Jay Gregory is probably my favorite guy to watch on tv shows. Wild Outdoors is just a good show and he comes off as very humble and has a genuine aura of knowing just how fortunate he is to be doing what he does for a living. As he starts of his show with "Hi, I'm Jay Gregory and I am the luckiest guy in the world"........and by seeing the bucks he gets to hunt I understand why he would say that

Anyways he has his wife with him a lot and she seems just fine as well. Well this show tonight must have been when she FIRST hit the stands because she was dreadful. I give them credit for even showing the footage. She had 5 bucks locking up and tossing each other around a stream about 40 yards from her stand and when they decided to walk past her she drew her bow and I have NEVER seen anyone contort and twist so much to get a bow drawn in my life........the bow was horizontal at one point.......well all this twisting and pulling obviously knocked her arrow off and she didn't know it and dry fired her bow [].......of course the bucks just stood there and didn't move She nocks another arrow and does the SAME thing again with the twisting and back bending and flailing around trying to get her bow drawn........the arrow falls off AGAIN but Jay sees it and grabs at her while she is at full draw to stop her from another dry fire............he grabs her arrow and puts it back on her rest and she swings around and sticks a buck about a foot too far back and just under the spine......the arrow goes in about half way and the buck takes off. They recovered the deer.........don't really know what happened between shot and recovery .......but it was down right scarey to watch. She was honest about her sloppy work in the tree and chalked it up to "rookie" mistakes.....I was just VERY surprised to see her so over bowed when her husband is such an experienced hunter.........I really can't believe he would think she was OK if she had to draw like that . Maybe she was just nervous as heck.

I rewound the DVR a few times to watch and listen to that dry fire []

That's interesting, that's not the first time she's done that. If you recall there was a point where she strained so hard to draw her bow she pulled the muscles in her back and couldn't draw it. She started crying, so jay helped her pull it back. I feel bad for her to be honest. She never seems to get it done the right way. She is over-bowed and i've seen it on multiple occasions. If you watch the show a lot and watch her draw in the stand she always seems to be over-bowed. It's bad. I didn't catch the show tonight, but like i said it does not surprise me at all. Interesting post.

I do remember seeing a woman a long time ago try to draw and couldn't and start crying after the buck walked off........I didn't realize it was her.

Wow...........that puts tonights show in even weirder perspective.

That's the latest Politically correct hunt you know...kids, women and handicapped. All the TV celebs have gone to them about 50 percent. They're usually enept, overbowed etc etc. It's a shame. They put them on these game farms and the world immediately annoints them as "EXPERTS". EVERY show has a harem of women experts these days. Sorry, I just don't buy it. Now if they'd follow Huntingal or someone like that I'd believe it. I saw the show in question. I wouldn't have let her go hunting until she could handle the equipment. What a crock.

I saw it and almost fell off my couch - have no idea what happened on that dry fire. Anyway, iunderstand that the bow is often harder to pull under pressure, butthe way she struggled, i'm not sure she coulda pulled it back on atarget - overbowed is an understatement. entertaining though, and i wonder how long it took to find that deer?

I actually turned it on with about 15 minutes left in the show so I got to see all the action. If it were me, I would have never shown that footage. It was fairly scary. I definitely wouldn't let her go into the woods by herself.

So when you say overbowed, do you mean the poundage was too high? My wife would actually really like to try target shootingbut can't pull back the 65-70 pounds I usually have my bow set at. You have to have at least 40 pounds to legally bowhunt here, which she may want to do if she gets into target shooting. Is that enough poundage to kill a deer? Just because its legal doesn't mean your success rate would be high.

It could do the trick. You'd want to use fixed CUT TO THE TIP broadheads and limit her distances to closer in. The girl in question looked like she may have shot a dozen arrows before heading for the woods. She was that inept at it. They showed the footage because they wanted to have a girl in the video, plane and simple. Any deer I've ever hunted in "FAIR CHASE" would have been out of there long before she got set. I just have to believe these were pets almost. I checked but it didn't help... there was no reference to Bambi in the credits.

40 lbs would be enough but need good shot placement
