I NEVER go to my stand without an H.S. True Talker! This call has consistently proven itself from early Oct to mid Jan. Get a buck and I have found that generally he will respond to the authentic sounds of this call. As far as scents, I may put a very small dab of James Valley Scents Letal Weapon Gel out on some over hanging branches in front of my stand but generally this late in the season the buck has pretty much smelled it all and may get very edgy. Best advice is keep the wind in your face and any and all scent away from the target animal. Good luck and good huntin'

another vote for the True Talker, even when I take it into the woods and don't even use it, I still kill deer. LOL, thats how good it is. I now, take it for good luck.

I press on the membrane about 1/4 of the way down from the mouth end... making what would amount to be a younger buck/halfway mature doe sound. I use it like this most of the time regardless of season, and have called in everything from does to 5 1/2 year old bucks.

I'll also "roll" my finger along the membrane as well, changing the tone midway through the call sometimes.
