Sheds

RE: Sheds
I usually wait until March. Because by then, 95% of them will have dropped. If you're shed hunting public land, or land other shed hunters use, then start looking earlier.

RE: Sheds
Here is a pic of a buck from last week that appears to have shed an antler even though I believe it more than likely was broken off more so than shed. The odd thing is ussually I dont see them break right at the base but who knows.

RE: Sheds
KS,
I have found them as early as Christmas time. We start hunting them (whitetails)pretty hard by the middle of January and on through until May for elk. Heck who am I kidding, am constantly looking for bones during the summer, and on intothe hunting seasons too.

RE: Sheds
Back 4-5 years ago, my buddy arrowed a descent 8 ptr. I pick it up, and dropped it on the ground... Not too hard though. Both antlers fell off. It was really close to shedding. I've even found shed antlers during rifle season (Dec 1st). But those are rarity. The reason I like to wait until March, is that I'm the only one shed huntingmy areas. And I might as well avoid bumping deer out of the area, and just wait until 95% of the antlers are dropped, to start looking for them.
