Youth Bow
I'd like to get my 12 year old and my 9 year old a bow for X-mas. Anyone have any recomendations on what to get? I thought I remember seeing on here a bow that is "universal" for kids?? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

This parker at Cabelas has 10" of draw length adjustment, and you can get it from 30-40 pounds or 40-50 pounds.

Browning makes some very nice youth bows, with 10" of draw length adjustment so they can grow with your kids. The Micro Midas and another one that is slipping my mind right now. They are fairly high tech, very nice bows, and reasonably priced as well. Alot of companies make decent youth bows, but the draw length feature on these bows imo, puts them above the rest.

If you are looking for a bow for them to share, then hands down, its the Genesis from mathews, fits just about everyone all at once. It has some down sides, but to fit multiple people of differing sizes, you can't beat it.
If you are looking for a bow, one for each of them, then most companies now have a bow or two or three with a huge draw length range.

I believe your son can start big game hunting when he is 14 in NY. Anyway, my son wanted to shoot traditional three years ago, he is already went through two bows 15 and 20 pound, and he is now shooting a 25 pound bear recurve. I'll probably look into getting him something a littleheavier maybe early next year. Anyway he has a ball shooting with me and his cousin, and there is not much to worry about with him shooting traditional (setup, maintenance, etc). You may want to consider traditional. When he turns 14, I'll let him make up his own mind if he wants to shoot wheels. He is ten now, here is a picture:
Here is grouping that he shot this past summer with his selfbow (cost about $35) at ten yards:

The Parker is basicly the same bow as the Browning...The difference is you can upgrade the limbs on the Parker for $50. I bought one of these for my 10 yr old. Very simple, no bow press needed. I can shoot it and in under 1 minute we can have it set back up for him. 18"-28" draw......30,40, and 50 lb limbs available....the whole bow cost about $300 set up.
