Default Best site for building my own website?

I don't know about hosts because I have never tried building my own, but here's a link to a pretty good tutorial from a beekeeping page I visit every now and then.

I use geocities. I don't know if it is the best or not....but it works. I think I only get about 15 meg of space. But it does the trick.

Does you Internet Service Provider (ISP) provide free web space? If so they should have a quick start template in place to get you started.

I you have cable or some other broadband you will have a static IP address. You can publish your own site on your own PC. This way you are not limited to the size of ya site. If you are interested in this I can give you further details. You will need Microsoft Frontpage and Microsoft IIS.
