What time does everyone head out in the morning, is it wise to use a flash light to get to your stand?? I have tried without one and I make 3 times as much noise??

I make sure I'm in my stand at least a half our before first light. Unless you can see where your going in the dark , use a flashlight. Deer can see you when it's dark wether you have a flashlight or not.

Yes , I think a half hour is plenty. I know guys that get in there an hour and a half early and IMO thats overkill. I kick up deer all the time when heading in to my stand in the dark. After settling down for a half hour things return to normal. For whatever reason , when it's dark and you kick up deer , they dont run off far , they usually go 20 - 40 yards and stop and snort at ya.

This year I have decided to wait until sun up,or shortly after.Reason being I don't like getting up early, and after reading an intreuging article in Outdoor Life about a specific author that has had success waiting until then.I'll know if it makes a differance soon enough.
Speaking of being in the woods early...Last year while staying at our hunting shack my dad asked if I wanted to get up when he went to work.Knowing he left an hour before 1st light I said yeah why not.Well he wakes me up,I get ready and go get in my stand.Wasn't long when I figured out I had been dupped. That morning he had to be to work an hour and a half earlier!<img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle>I sat there for almost two hours listening to coyotes run past me,deer walking around, and the neighbors cows mooing. All the while it was so dark I couldn't see my hand in front of my face!

I'm like Bowfanatic......The deer can see you in the dark as well as in the light...I go 1/2 hour before day break........Just seems every thing has forgot about me when the sun comes up...

I use a flashlight, and my gole is to be up the tree, bags and bow ready and sitting still 60 minutes before daylight. I know most will say 60 minutes is too much, but in TX its better to get in while its cool, have 30 minutes to sit and cool down, spray down with scent killer, and in 30 more minutes its time to hunt. Besides...its just a little bit more time I get to spend in the woods

I think it all depends on where you are shooting. If you are sat on a trail between the bedding area and food get there before first light. If you have patterned the deer to a specific route through the woods just get there 30 mins before they get there. I realise I have over simplified it and made it sound real easy ( Its not ). I have just started waiting until I can see what I am doing purely because my stand is a bit tricky to find. Got a nice doe for the freezer at 9:30am. Good luck....You will work out what is best for you and soon get your rewards.
