Default Blood in the head, Blood in the feet........

I had the misfortune of losing a doe that was hit by my son this week. His impression of the shot was a "textbook double lung hit", or so he thought. We only had blood for about 40 yards, then nothing. After recruting some help and an exhaustive search, we had no choice but to give up on the deer. I hate posting that but there it is, anyway, here's my question.

Back at camp we were discussing the evenings events and replaying the possibilities, one of the old timers made the comment "THE BLOOD WAS PROBABLY IN HER FEET". Now maybe I've had my head in the sand all these years but this was the first time I had ever heard this. He claims that at certain times of the month, based partly on moon phase, all animals go through cycles where their blood is either in their feet or their head. He claims this information is available in the farmers almanac and likens this to when you dig a hole in the yard, sometimes you have enough dirt to fill it back up but sometimes you don't. (now I have experienced that!) His point is that when a deers blood is in their head they "BLEED" better than when it's in their feet.

I know you guy's probably think I'm a real Kook but have you guy's ever heard this? .......Not loosing my mind....Fletch

Well put, Dacotah. Well put.

Think about it fletchdp, the anatomy of an animal doesn't change with a particular moon phase. All organs -- and internal fluids, including blood -- stay in the same exact place regardless of time, weather, monsoon, tidal wave, or any other external factor. It's almost funny to think how big a deer's legs would have to swell out to hold all the blood being pumped around in a deer's body.... Ah, I can't even begin to go there... just plain ludicrousness.

Some of these "old-timers" are something, aren't they? I do thank you for sharing the story though... gotta good chuckle from it, and I'll probaby wake up the wife later on laughing even harder.

Discipline -- not desire -- determines destiny.

Whoever said that was ridiculous wasn't lying. If all a deer's blood was in its feet, it wouldn't be able to walk! That would mean that it's veins aren't working, therefore blood would't circulate through the heart and lungs and the deer would be dead! It's the same concept of "bleeding out." Sorry you'ns lost the deer, but it sure ain't 'cause the deer's blood was in its feet.

God bless,
Brandan

I don't think the old timer meant that "all the blood" was in his feet, just a figure of speech you know. I did get a kick out of it though...Good luck all...Fletch
