How did they know you were there? The cops, not the deer.
Maybe the deer called 911?

No advice but I feel your pain. My first year bow hunting I was on own land watching a group of 5-6 does muddle around about 60 yards away. Didn't notice me but were slowly making their way towards me down the edge of the woods. Maybe the light will hold of just long enought I thought, and no sooner than that they all perked-up and saluted. In my amazement I see a another guy my age (whom I'd met before) just strolling along down the creekline perpendicular to me and the deer. [:@][:@][:@] Upon stumbling across me he asked in enthusiasm "hey, did you see those deer!!!??? There was a whole group of like, 20 of 'em!!!" "yes" was my replay. Shortly after I was envisioning what an arrow would look like in his calve

If it's after dark and he drove out there with the car... he probably scared them off or diverted their attention. 7 bucks in a wad at this time of year.... that isn't right. They should be dispersed by now a little. The buck I shot this morning was a stinking fool. I really wouldn't worry about it. Don't over hunt it and keep on keeping on.

I'd guess that the truck scaring them off like that was what probably spooked them off not you climbing down from your stand. I'd bet they'd associate with the truck rather than you and have no problem coming through again.
I have also noted bucks still cruising together which is odd for this late.

That's better than the game warden who came down our trail, on private land, in the middle of the morning hunt, to check our licenses. Then he gave me guff about not being able to see my blaze orange even though it was hanging on a limb within arms reach as allowed by law. (We suspect a hunt club that hunts the neighboring property called him on us because they don't like that we actually get in the woods and hunt and sometimes their dogs run deer by us and we shoot them (deer). Crazy people in that area, we've had people shoot into the treetops and yell at us because we shot deer in our woods that they thought we should let go by so they could shoot it !?!

In Pa and NY shooting hours end at sundown not civil twilight, very few area's I hunt offer you the oppurtunity to get back in the woods a mile or two.
Most people hunt until dark and you can get a ticket for it. One place I hunted was next to State land so the DEC would stop by quite a lot. Well one night were standing by the trucks talking with a DEC officer and a public land guy comes walking out after legal shooting hours ans unloads his gun. The officer gave him a ticket for hunting after legal hours.
