My buddy shot a buck thru one lung a few years back that we end up tracking that nite for about 200 yards then gave up to wait for daylight in the morning. In the morning we picked up the trail (buddy left his bow in the truck thinking deer would be dead). Turns out we end up tracking the deer across a gravel road, thru a huge cattail slough that was dry and found him laying next to a stockdamn almost 1.5 miles from where he shot the buck. He was still fully alive, but drained (lost lots of blood). I shot him at 15 yards for my buddy to put him down, he got to his feet, ran straight into the stockdam, and started to sink. We both hopped in the dam, and pulled him out. Was definately an interesting experience.

Last Saturday, I shot a buck thru the heart and 1 lung...ran about a ½ mile. Even after hours of tracking, we kept kicking him up. We went to lunch..got half drunk..then went back out. He was laying 10 yards past where we stopped tracking him.

Today, my buddy put down a 7 pointer. 1 lung and the liver..went down within 60 yards.

A double lung shot deer will only run as far as it can hold it's breath. If it has just exhaled, it'll drop. A few years ago I shot a buck that was almost straight under my stand with my 30-06. I only hit one lung and the deer ran about 90 yds. before it died. Single lung with a bow?? that could be hard to say. Might run 50, might run 5 miles. Hope you find it. Scott Woody
