Got my buck

Got my buck
So it finally happened. After last year of not getting a buck, i was beginning to think that i was cursed. Granted i wasnt hunting great spots last year, but when i did get my chances, it just never seemed to happen. So anyhow, last night i got a beauty to end the fall bow season. Here is the story.
So i go to our honey hole property with my hunting buddy, he sets up on one side of the field, closer to the property owners house. I have my stand set up in the corner of the same field, but there are two woodlots coming to this area and a fence row intersects the two. Its a perfect natural funnel and im right in the middle of it. So anyhow, the weather was perfect, no wind and it was overcast, there was even a light rain for about 10 minutes when i first set up, i could just feel it was going to be a great night. On the other side of the fence row, there is a huge field that seperates our property from a county park. We cant hunt in the park or on that field, so my stand is as close as you can get to it. There is a ridge running from the park to my stand across this field and on the top of the ridge, there are a bunch of oaks. The deer just mill around under there eating the acorns. So im sitting minding my business, watching a button buck under these oaks. Out of no where a good 6 pointer shows up and im just praying that he will come my way. I watch him for a good 20 minutes until he starts coming to me, im getting pumped now and am totally focused on him. For some reason i decide to look back at where he came from and i see him, he is a great deer and just prayed that he would come my way. The bigger deer meets up with the 6 pointer about 50 yards from me and they lock antlers alittle, not fighting but just messin around. They both go and freshen up a scrape that is in the area and then the smaller 6 comes my way. The bigger deer is following him and im starting to think this might actually happen. They follow the ridge and hit the fence row, now they are about 30 yards out but are in a bunch of thickets and the big one is behind a massive oak, no shot. The smaller 6 goes under the fence and comes into the area where im set up in, the perfect funnel. He starts to go up into the field and out of no where, my buddy starts to rattle. Both deer just freeze. Im thinking great, they are going to bolt. My buddy has no idea the deer are there cause he cant see me. Finally my buddy stops and the deer settle down, and the smaller 6 walks into the field. The bigger buck is just watching the entire time to make sure its safe. Finally he jumps over the fence and comes in, Its game time. So he comes down the same path the 6 did and decides to rub this one tree 20 yards out, only problem is that his vitals are blocked by a bush. Damn! after another 3-4 minutes, he walks another 5 steps and is behind another bush, Damn, damn!!! He is just scoping the field and i cant believe that he is only 15 yards out broad side and i cant get a clean shot! He comes behind this smaller bush and im at full draw, one step, two steps, THWACK!!!!!!!!!!! Clean pass through. He runs 25-30 yards and falls, i cant believe it and almost fall from the tree. Turns out the buck was a BIG 6 pointer with no brow tines. What a beautiful animal! Meanwhile the smaller 6 doesnt know what happens and walks to my buddy. The smaller 6 gets to 10 yards from my buddy and ashe is drawing back on the deer, his release breaks and the arrows flies off, spooksthe smaller one and runs off. What a great night. I saw a couple more does and2 spikes. I am still so pumped up. Perfect way to end the fall bow season and it was the last night i could hunt, Monday im leaving to Texas for a big boy hopefully, and i cant hunt today or tomorrow. The two bucks i saw last night were the onlylegal deer i have seen all year, since september 10th, so its true, good things happen to those who wait. Now lets just hope i can post this picture. The picture is taken from a camera phone, in the back of the truck this morning on the way to the butcher. I have great pictures of him in the woods, but im waiting to get them developed. Lets hope this works.
