Well, this is my sad story. I had 2 excellent shot opportunities this morning to fill my doe requirement and get the buck I've been seeing. A group of 4 does and 3 yearlings found a prime hideout on the edge of a 400 yard field. The only way to get near them was to go through the woods behind them which are dense with oak trees and dry, noisy leaves. We finally got 2 days of rain so I could quietly stalk within range (last night about 3 AM). At about 7 am a doe walks out and starts feeding about 10 yards away. I couldn't focus in on my sights. Slowly, I take my glasses off - now I can't see the deer. I get busted, doe runs to about 20 yards and stops. With my glasses still off, I only see the blur of my deer. I can't focus on an aiming point. Second shot opportunity gone!

Ten minutes later, a second doe walking briskly about 15 yards away. Glasses on - I can't see the sights! At 43 years old it looks like my low light vision is gone. Unless the deer move in broad daylight I'm sunk!

Has anyone tried the dot type bow scopes or lazer aiming devices? I hate to do it but I won't give up bowhunting and I don't want to get eye surgery at this point. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

fredbearfan, I feel for ya buddy. I've had 2 surgerys on my right eye which happens to be my aiming eye, and my left eye ain'r much better.
if magnafied sights were legal in Ar then that's what I'd have on my bows!
if their legal in your state then that's what I'd use if i were you.
I know a 2x scope or magnafied sight would help me tremendusly. good luck.

I have posted some very extensive posts on this subject previously, but to capsulize. RED DOT SCOPES are the ONLY way to go in my opinion.
Shoot with both eyes open - no peep sight - incredibly accurate.

DON'T even think about a Laser - no good and not legal in most states.

My recommendations - SCOPEMATE 2 Mount, second choice would be HHA Optimizer lite.

Many good scopes - get 5 MOA or smaller. TRIJICON REFLEX II works great, no batteries required, but is pricey. Lots of other good red dots as well.

Once you shoot a red dot scope, you will NEVER go back. Anything you can see with your two eyes, you can shoot at accurately.

I'm on my way out to the woods right now. Hopefully, I'll get back early enough to hit the archery shop and do some window shopping.

Perspective is everything I quess. I would cringe when I saw these elaborate gagets advertized in magazines and think " ..if you need to have every advantage, buy a rifle." Now I need the those gizmos just to stay in the sport.

Fredbearfan I also were glasses and I have the pair I hunt with tinted yellow or amber . I can see things alot brighter and I can see earler when its first getting light or if its over cast .Try a pair of clip on shooting glasses over your glasses and see if it helps .

I ordered a Bushnell Holosight with the HHA mount from the archery shop. It should arrive on Thursday so the shop will mount it on Friday. Big bucks but I tried it in bright sunlight and almost total darkness. Seems to do what I need it to do.

I'll post a full report next week ... hopefully with a mouthfull of venison.

Keep in mind that any sight with a battery would elimate a deer from P&Y entry. That's the main reason I shoot pin and a peep.
