Default Help Prepare For Long hunt???

I've spotted a big buck on some land I'm hunting and I want to try and get it him before someone else does.I wanna try and stay in my stand a little longer and see if I can get him.He makes his way by my trail cameraat different times everyday but usually between 6:30-12:30.I wanna see if I can wait him outfrom about 6:00am to about1:00-1:30.Honestly I've been having a hard time staying in my stand much past 8:30,how do I prepare to help me stay in the stand longer?I was thinking of bringing a sandwhich just to break up the morning. Is their anything particular that I should'nt bring to eat for scent reasons? Also I have a little camo squirt bottle,I was thinking of bringing something to drink.Should I stick with water or can I bring some juice or something?
Sorry for such silly questions but I wanna be sure I'm not bringing anything in the woods that would mess my chances up.
Thanks,
JE

Take a book to read. I do it sometimes and it helps pass the time. Also, you could take an apple to cover up the scent after you eat something. I would suggest packing beef jerky, or crackers, or gum, or anything that will fill your gut. Sitting it out til after lunch ain't an easy thing. And pack a lot of water. Water takes the edge off of hunger...and being thirsty is a major demoralizer.

Hope that helps. Good luck.

Very good question. I think I have 11 stands spread in the woods that I have accumulated over the years. Some of them are heavey as boat anchors packing in the bush. I have a couple light ones that I don't even realize I'm carring. There are some of my stands also that is so uncomfortable that I'm ready to come down after an hour because its seats not comfy and makes sitting for any length of time difficult. I have a couple other stands that I can actually snooze in and stay in from sunrise to sunset if I wanted cause its so comfortable. Cheap is not always better and when your butt gets sore its hard to keep from moving around and spooking game. Get yourself a better stand is what I suggest, I don't know what the name of mine are or I would give you some recommendations, but they are climbers and you face the tree as your climbing and then you have the option to turn the seat where your back isagainst thetree and your about a foot below the handrails making it safe to doze when those nods start to hit. I think the suspended tree stand seats hung on by straps such as one of my stands made by Rivers Edge sucks and the person who made them never has hunted out of them. There are a lot of things to consider in selecting a stand, cost, weight, but the most important is being comfortable and quiet. Good Luck, Bobby

Pay very close attention to what "Bobby" said in the above post. Comfort is the key! I've been bow hunting for over 30 year's (I'm only 36) and using climbing treestands for about 25 of that. When I first started, I used a "Baker" stand. The thing was uncomfortable and In my opionon a death trap/accident waiting to happen, (what was my father thinking???). Between being uncomfortable and being worried about the thing crashing to the ground, not much fun. Now a day's, I own a loggy bayou for bowhunting, in my opionon the best "bow hunting" stand on the market, very light, easy to attach to the tree (extremely safe and secure) and in about a minute and a half, I'm climbing up the tree. One draw back, not as comfortable as an API Grand Slam. If I intend on making an all day sit (meaning to me, from sun up to sun down) I my use the API. Even if I get a little sleepy, I take a little nap. Impossible to fall out of the thing and very comfortable. I have just simply learned if your comfortable, warm, dry, etc., then hunting is fun and the time passes by and you don't even notice the "time" issue. However, if my feet are cold, I'm wet, etc., it's no fun, I'm miserable and it's time to go! It pay's to invest some money in good clothing and equipment. As far as food a couple of P & J sandwiches and a couple of apples should do you good. Drink whatever you want. Then patience is simply the number one thing one has to learn when hunting this animal. Once you conquer all the aspect's of that you will be ahead of the curve. Good luck.

Get a book about hunting whitetails. Not that you need it or anything but it is interesting to read especially while deer hunting. You can apply what you read while hunting. Just remember that deer can be very quiet so glance around every so often. Bring plenty of water and snacks. Be careful if using soda bottles b/c they spew and can spook that buck quick. Good luck. Got any pics of the buck?

Good point. Some will argue this point about the bottle. I try to pee in a bottle when I dont forget it but I've peed on the ground and mintues after saw one of the biggest bucks to date. It goes either way I guess.

I agree with the book. I have one (or ebooks on my palm) with me every time I hunt. I'm a fidgeter but sit still very easily when I'm reading. I look around after reading each page. Also, when I sit all day in my stand I take a small black pillow to sit on to add padding to my stand's seat. If you have a hangon stand a footrest addition helps a lot too.

Remember that caffinated drinks cause you to urinate more frequently.

Take pics of the deer you're hoping to kill and every time you feel like getting down take out the picture and look at it.

Thanks for all the replies.I will bring some peanut butter and jelly sandwhiches along with an apple or two and some water.I have a book on bowhunting andI think that I will bring itas well.
I will try and post a pic of the deer but not sure if I can get it to go through or not. This buck may not be a monster to a lot of you guys but where I hunt he is a monster.Nobody knows about him as far as I know.I'm the only one with thea trail camera so I got lucky enough to spot him.I'm sure if their is someone who knows about him their probably going to be like me and keep their mounth shut.
