I'm no expert but I would venture to say that the blades would go dull. When ever I am shooting at my target I shoot broadheads that have already been used for the same reason. That way I still get the practice with broadheads but I don't dull up any new blades.

for the mechanical part of the broadhead you can get practice blades. on my mechanical BH's i can remove the blades and i shoot them that way because they fly the same with the blades removed. i have shot a few different types of mechanicals and honestly i haven't had to move my sight yet because they fly just like my field points

I typically sacrifice one broadhead from each pack to use for practice. The other two are kept for hunting. You can definitely shoot an expandable into a block target but the blades will get dull the more you shoot them. Ofcourse, you could just buy the replacement blades once they do though.

How do you pull your broadheads out of the target?
1. Do you pull the broadheads on thru from the back?
2. Pull them back thru the target?
3. Do you take the broadhead off and then pull the arrow out?

If you are using the type of mechanicals that swing open on impact (such as a wasp jackhammer like i used to shoot), I would simply wrap the closed broadhead with dental floss where my rubber band would normally go. Wrap them good and this way when the broadhead strikes the target it doesn't open at all. Just pull them back out like feild points and shoot again and your blades will still be sharp. I think you'll find after a couple shots though, that your mechanicals will be shooting right with your FPs and there's really no need to shoot them anymore than you have to.

as has been said , the mechinals shoot just like my field points so I don't have to use my broadheads.
I shoot NAP Spitfire's and have taken 4 deer with the same head. I just resharpen it after each shot.the last buck I shot , I watched fall at about 40 yards from where he was hit.fell and never moved again.

You can shoot them into a foam target and the blades will be dull after just one or two shots. Also the foam has a habit of getting into the ferrul and gumming up the works. So after you pratice you have to take the braodhead apart. Clean out the grooves and then replace the blades. Once you have done that they should be good to hunt with. If you don't clean them out they probabely will not operate correctly when you go hunt with them..
