CG,
I'm with you buddy. Muzzy 4 blade all the way. Sometimes things happen and there is no explanation why it happens. Thanks for passing on the information, I was thinking about using synpers for a New Mexico hunt in Jan. and will stick with muzzy's after seeing what you reported. Regarding your bow not being tuned, hardly seems possible if you're able to shoot all three heads to the same place. And for the love of pete you were shooting a coyote, not a frikkin game animal. Hell, I'd put a texas neck shot on one if the opportunity made itself available. <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

CG...

I know some states outlawed them but the new wave of mechanicals work...minus a few brands.. period

However, you as mentioned shouldnt do the head shot...not even a coyote... a lung shot is a simple shot at 20 yards on a yote and especially at 8 yards..... gee... thats a give me shot....

Just take high percentage shots....

If you guy's don't like head shots don't watch the video &quot;lethal flight&quot;. I ordered the video from cabelas and was mildly shocked and somewhat impresed with what I saw. Impressed wth the shooting shocked with the lack of ethics on some of the shots. They did bag alot of game though.

As for the snypers I don't have a opinion formed yet, I own 2 packs of them but don't know if I'll use them. I leaning mor and more towards Muzzy. Good luck this year Jim

Roland,
Thanks! I needed that!! I'll take shots on coyotes that I wouldn't consider taking on a game animal....I've seen how destructive they can be and they need to be thinned..heck I wouldn't set a leg trap for deer either but I do on coyotes....Taking a head-on shot (notice I did not say head shot) is not a shot I would even consider on a deer, elk, antelope, etc but on a 25-35 lbs coyote it is very lethal. I didn't intend to shoot the one in the eye but he decided to look at the thing flying at him I guess....Don't know....Have yet to lose a coyote shot with my bow yet so I must be doing something right.
eightwgt,
I agree I think it is a ridiculous rule. There are too many success stories to say the mechs don't work. But I personally, based on the above will not use them....yet.....

I think alot of you have to lighten up on CG and get off your soap box. I for one consider each instance that he mentions legit. I'm using the Snypers again this year for only the second time and although I am a Muzzy advocate, I still feel the Snypers are worthy and I feel the above mentioned failures certainly can happen regardless.

AND, I would never take a neck or head shot on a whitetail deer, however I wouldn't hesitate taking a head shot on a coyote, call me unethical too but I'm taking the damn things out anyway I can get them!

I made what i thought was a good shot on a nice buck with a game tracker mechanical last year, left skimpy blood trail, didn,t find deer, but i found arrow with rubber band still in place, upon close inspection there was hair under blades. I think the blades opened going into hide and closed in soft tissue. Tarheel Hunter

I have to jump in here and defend CG's neck and head shots on a coyote. Those of you who are dumping your large animal ethical crap on CG for such shots on &quot;ki-yotes,&quot; obviously have never done much bow hunting of coyotes, if at all.

Coyotes rarely present a shot as a larger animal (deer, elk, etc) does. A coyote is much smaller, much shorter, and are often partially obstructed by various types of vegetation. Most often, all you see is the neck and head. Therefore, a neck and head shot using a bow is common, and is a devastating hit on a dog.

I witnessed a friend (bowhunter) purposely shoot a coyote in the back of the head. That dog dropped faster than the drawers of prostitute being offered double her going rate.

CG, just wanted to take a minute and tell you I'm proud of you for not letting this rile your feathers too much, and for not taking these responses too personally. God knows you could have mine.

Kudos on a good example of how to start a controversial topic and not let yourself be dragged into a free-for-all.

go gettem Cg, hopefully their hides will be somewhat prime! They do make nice looking pieces if nothing more then a throw rug!

Btw, 2 years ago I watched, not heard, a guy shoot a wolf and have one blade break....the next morning he shot a bou, which I didnt see during the shot, but wathced drop, break blades again!

It just aint worth the risk imo! Their are some that work, and some that dont, but how many critters wounded/lost does it take to find out? Also have been told first hand on the angle shots. A friend shooting a cow elk, quartering away, typical good shot, arrow hit with one blade and never penetrated lungs. I find it hard to believe being I didnt see it but knowing the bowhunter for the past 10 years, I'd back him all the way!

Mech's have been around almost longer then the compound. You neednt look farther then a good broadhead collecter to see it!

I have used mechanicals for several years with good and bad results.
The spitfires worked well for me but I tried another mechanical
that failed once and that was enough. I have decided to stick with
the Thunderhead 85 from now on. As to shooting a coyote in the head
with a bow, it's a risky shot but it's a coyote, and yes I would
have taken the shot also.
