The first mont of the season I have saw a total of about 25 der, killed 1 doe, and missed a 6 point. Now thats not to bad but I have only seen 2 deer in the afternoons and have went about 12 times. Now this can get pretty discouraging as you all may Know. Right now I am heunting the edge of a field which is filled with 10 ft. pine sapplings and is along side a cut over. This has been a great morning spot but I haven't seen **** in the afternoons. I need all of the help I can get. All advice is welcomed, maybe yall can help me pull out of this afternoon slump.
Thanks All

Well it sounds to me that your near a bedding area, if your seeing deer in the morning there probally traveling home to go to bed. Is there any food sources around your area? that would probally be your best afternoon stand site, near a food source.

Right now you need to be in the hardwoods from what I've seen. I hunt in Montgomery county N.C. on a 160 acre cut over. We're seeing some deer in the morning but nothing in the afternoon. The guys next to us have hardwoods and are seeing deer all the time. We can't even get them to eat corn. Acorns seems to be all they want right now.

By the way, what area of NC are you from and what area do you hunt?

I would try inside the hardwoods.Funnels,Mass's of acorns in an area, staging areas.Should produce deer in the afternoon.

It's not how big the Deer,But the size of the experiance that matters!!

Bighunt, try the hardwoods and if that doesn't work, try te trails leading to the bedding areas, keep switching around till you find the right spot. Sooner or later you will get there...<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

The best of luck in all your hunting endeavors!!!

God Bless,
Dave
