Hey guys and gals... This is my first post on the board and wanted to stop and say hello. I've been reading over the posts for a few weeks now and thought I'd finally introduce myself. I'm 25 years of age, currently live in the great state of South Carolina, and I have a renewed passion for bowhunting. Growing up in prime whitetail country, hunting was almost a given, but a move out of state and college life changed all that... Temporarily!
I guess I started hunting around 12 years of age and quickly had that "fever" that so many get from this great outdoor adventure. However, The last time I climbed a tree stand or even ventured in the woods was about 6 years ago. I lost contact with all my hunting buddies and found my life going in a different direction.
Well, it looks like I've made a U-turn in the middle of the night somewhere and found myself right back where I had started(SC). I had previously bowhunted for about 5 years, and had only taken ONE deer (doe)in all those years. Needless to say, I found the rifle far easier and left the bow at home on many occasions. Being young, patience was not a virtue I held strongly to. With a rifle, you don't have to get quite as personal with a deer from a hunting or scouting standpoint. The last deer I took was a small 6 point, but that was with my 30-06 rifle. I've been reading quite a bit, and to my suprise, not much has changed with bowhunting. I notice the "solo cam" is more widely used today than it was even 6 years ago. One thing that hasn't changed, is the argument over carbon or alluminum arrows(more energy, flatter trajectory, cost, etc...). I guess some things never change, huh?
Sorry to ramble like this and give my life story, but I just thought you might want to hear the path my life has taken the last several years, and how it eventually got me back to where I belong; In the woods!
P.S. What's a good bow? I sold my PSE when I left, and haven't looked into it real hard. Just thought you might have some opinions. Thanks!!!

Woodslover - As you will read from others your better off hitting a pro shop at least to determine what you would best fitted for. Go somewhere reputable. I recently bought what to me was high priced for what I wanted which was a Hoyt Magnatec xt2000. But thats what I wanted over other bows in that price range. now im certain others may tell you that there are others in that price range better yet. And that fine. It all what you will be comfortable with. Try and shoot some bows before buying. dont let someone sell you something that may be over your draw weight. Listen to the people here> it may be a little confusing, but if you read each persons message you will learn something. GOOD LUCK

Welcome to the board pull up a chair grab a cold one and jump in any time.
All the manufracturers make good bows it all boils down to what feels best for you.
Go to as many pro shops as you can and shoot as many different bows as you can then pick the one that feels best in your hands.

My PSE was set at 70 lb draw when I was 18 years old, so I'm pretty sure I can still handle that. I'm 6'5" 270 lbs now, so my draw length is pretty long. I THINK my previous draw length was 30 inches, but I'm not sure. I know I need to visit a pro-shop to get fitted and try out some bows. I'm just trying to get a feel until I can make the trip up there. Thanks for the advice!

WL2, welcome fellow bowhunter. I'm glad you chimed in and I'm looking forward to hearing how things are for you in SC.
There are so many great bows on the market today. With your draw length, you shouldn't have any problem fitting into all the manufactureres and turning out some real KE. I personally like Hoyt, Bowtec, Merlin, and Darton for starters.

A big, hearty "Welcome" to ya, WoodLover2!
Boy, you almost opened up a can of worms with that one, ya know? That's askin' for it in here, that query of yours! Thank God a few of the more settled-down, serener-type got to it first and told you to go see a pro shop before this became an "us" against "them" thread! (And don't think I didn't notice what bow Rob left out of his lineup, either! )
Seriously, thanks for sharing the background; it's always nice to know a little 'bout where one comes from. And be sure to check out all the bows at the shops; heck, you might like anything from a Browning (which I hear makes some of the most vibration-free bows on the market), to a Bowtech, or maybe another PSE, or a H-H-Hoyt (sorry, almost couldn't bring myself to say it ), or a Parker (check out their camo'd wheels and cams) to a Mathews or a Buckmaster G2.
Discipline -- not desire -- determines destiny.

Welcome!
From what I can see, there isn't a single manfacturer putting out a poor bow. Are some a little better than others? Sure, in areas like fit, finnish, & materials each mfg will have models that are a step up. Is any manufacturer producing a bow that clearly outshoots all the rest? No, if that was so, then no one would bother buying any other brand. Archers will tournaments with many different brands of bows and hunters kill deer with them all.
Good luck in your search for the one that feels best to you.
