I take a doe right off at the beginning of season for meat for my farmer. Than I wait for a buck that will score good. Somewhere around 140 or up. There have been alot of years with unfilled buck tags but that,s ok with me. I like to trophy hunt.

Ionly bowhunt public land in the Big Cypress Preserve in South Florida. Hard terrain. Doe tags are extremely rare, otherwise only bucks with at least one antler 5" or bigger. Deer herd isn't that big, so if it fits the minimum criteria, and I can take an ethical shot (for me 25 yards or less and broadside or quartering away), then I let fly.

I will take the first decent sized mature animal that goes by my blind. Buck or doe doesn't matter. This year I plan on buying additionalantlerless tags in addition to my any-sex tag, so I'll be able to shoot does and still hold out for a decent buck. I hunt to fill myfreezer, not my wall, but that doesn't mean that I don't get a thrill from seeing and harvesting mature bucks. Since I've done most of my hunting during the late ML season, I don't get to see many bucks because most of the survivors have been well educated by the shotgun season and aren't spending too much time wandering around during the day. I look forward toseeing more undisturbed bucks during the archery season and rut.

Since we have so many deer running around I usally whack a couple old dry doe first, But as far as a buck goes if it is'nt 4.5 or older I wont even pick up my bow from the hanger, I'll bring friends in to whack cull animals, if I dont get a special citter that I want to harvest I just finsh out the year with three more doe..
