Do you take a practice Shot in the stand?

Im just full of questions lately....But I've got hunitng on the mind!
Just wondering how many of you take a practice shot at something on the ground after you get in your stand? I usually don't but I know some people do. My old bow was pretty loud, and I didn't want to scare away any deer that were close by, but maybe now with the switchback I could get away with it. I also figure if I do try it, there is gonna be a hidden rock that will smash my arrow.
I usually just draw back and try out a few positions and make sure it all feels good.

Just my own personal opinion but I think people who "practice" in the field where they and other people huntare jerks. The dumber the jerk, the more arrows he'll be carrying in the field. Squirrel arrows, practice arrows, judo points, stump arrows and Hail Mary's all scream JERK.

Guess 'ol Jack doesn't ever shoot any small game while hunting. Hey Jack, some of us carry judo points not only to stump shoot, BUT also to shoot small game such as rabbit and grouse while hunting. Nothing better than fresh grouse at elk camp!

If I'm shooting small game, I'm not "practicing" just because I got bored am I?
If I'm deer hunting, you are right. I don't shoot at squirrels, birds and what ever else moves and I don't get in a deer stand unless I already know how far I can kill something.
For the guys who do, happy wounding, tracking and whimpering. Try not to kill anybody who knows how to hunt while you are slinging arrows and bullets around in the field to relieve the boredom.

Sheees, now everyone that shoots a "practice" arrow, weather it be at small game or a leave, or a stump, has gone from being "stupid" to being a "JERK".
And I have yet to see anyone shooting "bullets" out of thier bows, BUT I'd guess that could be dangerous[]

Yes they are jerks.
In fact the ones doing in on public land in Indiana are breaking the law. Public hunting land in Indiana is for hunting not for jerks who don't do their home work until the day the season opens.

Oh, I guess I didn't realize that you were changing the subject of this discussion. Went from shooting an arrow from stand, or while hunting as practice, to shooting stuff with guns on public lands out of season! If you'd stay a little more on subject, I might be able to follow your thinking!! So, I guess I'm not a jerk after all

The fact that you think that shooting an arrow into the ground is somehow more obtrusive than people stomping around the woods all day or that shooting an arrow is more dangerous when you are practicing than if you just missed doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

Never. Only pull my bow back to loosen up and practice different positions. Oh ya, and to kill game!

Nope. No matter how hard you try, you are going to leave some of you on the arrow, and then put it within shooting distance of you stand for deer to smell when they get close.

The topic was "practice shots".
I don't recall saying you were or were not a jerk. I'll take your word for it.

If you spent enough time practicing at home so you wouldn't need to while you were hunting, you wouldn't miss so much.
Try it, it works for me.
