Open area deer
Does anybody have any luck bowhunting open country whitetails? I just move a stand to a spot that has a sizable pond, and a strip of cottonwood trees. A couple of trails are in some brush and lead about 20 yards past my tree. There is not many trees, just a big alfalfa field and a soybean field. Can I expect any shots from this location?

Set up on the trail going to the fields. The strip of trees, if this is the only cover, should act as a funnel and will be a hot spot. Pick a location back in the staging area and wear em' out!

If you're seeing deer or sign through there, I think you may have a winning spot. I sometimes hunker or lay down in the middle of agricultural fields (hiding in or behind clumps of weeds if there are any) in areas that seem to be evening deer congregations spots. Last year I had a group of 5 or 6 six does mill around me for nearly an hour as I sat in a clump of foxtails. I can't tell you how many times I thought I was about to get a shot at them, but unfortunately they stayed jusssstttt outside of my range. Had a blast and went home pretty wired that night anyway.
