While hunting a big buck was in the back yard!
I get to my inlaws to pick up my wife and daughter after hunting at another property and my 2 1/2 year old daughter comes running out of the house and she says "Daddy I see 2 bucks!" I wanted to cry.
They came out about half an hour before sunset. It was a spike, which was still in the back yard when I got back, and a buck that was described to me by the 3 other people in the house as 'HUUUUUUGE'. They said it was at least as big as a 160 class my father in-law has on the wall.
Man that's humiliating. I go hunting, come back and everyone in the house spent ten minutes watching two bucks eat acorns out of my inlaws back yard. What makes it worse is the big one ran into the woods towards one of my stands, which is only about 30 yards into the woods!! I almost hunted that stand too. Crap! Crap! Crap!!!!
Also, this happened three years ago. Same thing, except I got the buck next night (before he got to the backyard. hehe). I'm going to try the same thing tonight but this is a much much bigger and smarter buck. Wish me luck!
oh, the only good thing is I saw a really nice buck too. Probably the second biggest buck I've ever seen. I was hunting a 'bridge' over an irrigation ditch. The ditch is pretty wide and deep so the deer always cross the bridge. This guy decided it was more fun to tease me by browsing on the other side of the bridge.

THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME LAST NIGHT! . . . except I was too sick (suffering with the flu) to go hunting. Opening day has been the only time out so far and I really wanted to take advantage of my day off, but I was unable physically to go. So . . . my 11 year old is out in the yard playing with our German Shepherd pup and when he came in, he nonchalantly told us about the big buck that he just saw in the front yard. He said the rack was very big and probably had, "8 or 10 points." When it saw the dog, it ran back into the woods in the direction of my stand (which coincidently is also about 30 yards into the woods!!) It figures!!!!
Today's small bucks are tomorrow's trophies.

I feel you're pain. Two of the biggest bucks I have ever seen in this area are camped outin town!! The bigger of the two is a huge 9x7 nontypical Mulie, the other is a very large 5x7 nontypical. They have been staying in a subdivision about 1/2 mi from some undeveloped land. I have seen them three different times on my way to work in the morning. The first time I saw them I stopped the truck and stared in wonder as they ate the flowers out of a guys yard without a care in the world. I watched them for close to 15min at about 15yd away. Go figure

Ok Guys, Where are the camera's?
Seriously the deer know it is in a No HUNTING area!
The biggest whitetail I saw was just at twilight with 2 does on the land I had permission to hunt. Couldn't get a good read on the range so I didn't take a shot and risk wounding him. I saw tracks the opening of gun season he made, making straight for a 4 acre woods in the city park!
Saw him next spring once and havn't heard of anyone getting him and that would be in the news!
It is always nice seeing some of these big guys but it also is a pain wondering why they can't just walk under my stand when I am in it!

speaking of cameras I have a camera out in the woods. Over the winter I got about a half dozen pictures of a nice 9 point plus 3 pictures of a huge almost perfectly symmetrical 10 point with nice mass. I haven't gotten any pictures of him since the first week in January (after every deer season ended!!) but I'll be tickeled if that's him. I just hope I see him.
One of these days I'll get a webshots account and post some pics from the game camera. I have some pretty good ones.
My buddy saw a really big bodied deer on opener around the same area but didn't get a good look, that raised my hopes a little but. Now I'm pumped!!

I can imagine that happening to me this fall since I will be splitting time amongst a few areas, one of which is the woods right out back.
Some things are true whether you believe them or not.

I setup in one spot at 5:50pm and my buddy went to another. As I went into the woods I kicked up 3 deer. One had a huge body. It went towards my buddy so I was pretty excited.
One of the deer stopped by me, I wasn't even to my stand yet. Unfortunately it was a button buck. Dang I am so stupid. I shot him. It was a quick decision, I figured my hunt was so sqrewed up and I wouldn't see any other deer since I spooked them so bad. I don't really regret it because I'll get some nice hamburger out of him. Plus I have 5 tags to use this year.
Anyway, the bruiser came into a field not far from my buddy (coming the opposite way I told him to expect the deer. He thought he had a 40 yard shot but it was 30. Shot right over his back. He said he's got lots of hardware. I hope I see it again. It sounds like it might be the buck that I have pictures of last year that was a 9 point and not the nicer 10 that I have pictures of. Either way, I wouldn't complain.
Anyway, very disapointing that we didn't get him. That was our one really good chance. One of the most exciting hunts of my life because I knew that buck was headed right to my buddy and I had to wait 2 hours to find out what happened.
