Leaving stands on public ground?
I am going to be hunting public ground quite a bit next year and I am wondering how many of you hang stands and leave them without getting them stolen? Also interested in any tips for not getting them stolen. Thanks for any input.

RE: Leaving stands on public ground?
I have hunted on public land where we left our stands out everyday. We used a heavy duty bike cable with combination locks. All of our locks were the same so if you wanted to hunt a different stand you could. You could have trouble if you left it out over a period of time while you weren't out in the woods ie. weeks. I would be more worried if it was a blind, because most guys aren't looking up in trees anyway.

While hunting on WMA last year, had my cliimber strapped down on the back of my fouwheeler. Left it on the the fourwheeler parked in the bushes while I went scouting. Came out to only the fourwheeler.[:@]

you may want to check the rules and regs of the land your huntin'....i know where i hunt you can't hang it more than a day or two before season and it's got to come down just as fast after the hunt is over.....i usually leave mine up during the season but i take the chance of it being stolen and possibly burned during the controlled burns.....and yes i've had them stolen....it's really sad to have a fellow hunter or huntress out there takin' another hunters equipment but it's going to happen...just a matter of time.
i agree about gettin' a climber.....the viper is lightweight and easy to transport in and out....very comfy too.

If you leave anything on public land long enough it won't be there one day.

I know a guy who had a nice set of climbing sticks and hid them well into the bushes on public land, so they'd be handy. Wrong idea.... They were gone by the time he came back for another hunt!!
Public land hunting? Three simple words: Use a climber!
