I guess it depends some on where you are. I have hunted the same 30,000 acres of archery only public land for the last 5 years. I use a climber, but I have come across maybe a dozen permanent stands (not legal BTW). Same ones year after year. Nobody has bothered them. I have never seen anybody use them either, which kind of make me wonder why they are there (but that's another story). That is not to say that we don't have thieves down here, but I haven't had that experience. Might be in part because there aren't many bowhunters here. Might be in part because no vehicles are allowed in there (though if someone was going to steal a stand I guess they wouldn't much care . Might be those stands aren't worth stealing.
