Default Donating Deer?

I have in the past donated deer to Hunters for the Hungry. The problem with doing so is in my state you still must skin and quarter the deer before donation. I have just found out that the Carnavor Society down the street also takes donated deer. You can bring them in any condition, whole, hind quarters and back straps removed and even left over carcus (I think). I was also told they will let you watch them feed the big lions and tigers.

What would you do if you hunted where it's unlimited for antlerless deer?

I would probably still take a couple to three animals a year, and depending on the ease of harvesting deer would donate to hunters for the hungry.I donated a deer last year through a local processing plant but wonder if it ever got to the hungry or needy.I know that market sells venison jerkey and sausage and what not's just not certain that the meat gets out to those who could use it.I just started processing my own last year and making sausage and stuff so three would do my family good for an entire season for sure.

Here in MO, does are unlimited. I have found, however, that I can't kill enough of them to start giving them away. We can donate them here as well, and the Conservation department will pay for $35 of the processing, but I still have to pay the remainder. It is quite expensive, unfortunatley. What I would like to see, is the price of an annual archery permit go up $1, and that dollar goes directly to processing fees. I would pay the extra dollar if it would nock the cost of my out of pocket down.

I would fill my frezzer and my familys than I would give people that I know who are down on there luck that wont take help from state funded things than the hunters for the hungry if I still have meat left over.

This is my plan if I get my moose permit and kill a bear and a deer in one year. I dont have that kind of freezer space.

We can buy one doe tag a day where I hunt. I think it ends up being over 100 so thats pretty much unlimited. The most i've shot is 5 and we ate 4 and gave one away. I would have no problem shooting more and donating as long as it wasn't damaging the population on the property i hunt.

I give meat to people from church or the neighborhood that is in a financial bind. I found out over the years with deer and other items if you give freely God will supply my needs not wants

here in va, additional doe tags are 12 bucks for two. the hunters for the hungry pays $35 for the butchering. I felt a bit guilty not contributing more of the money aspect. I'll be contributing more money this year though. It should be nearly free for them. imo

I don't ever donate. I should but they really give you a guilt trip if you don't also pay the processing fees and the processor sometimes doesn't want to take them if you don't pay because they have to wait so long for their money so I just don't give. I spend a lot of money hunting and what they don't realize is that I typically have a couple of hundred per deer invested in the animal. So if I am going to pay to have it cut up on top of the couple of hundred that I already have invested then I will keep it or give it away to someone who will pay the processing for themselves. I would actually kill more than I do if I had more people to give them to though. I have one guy that will take two a year and he just comes and picks them up as is. Then I have another guy that takes 1 a year and he picks it up as is. All I do is gut for those two guys. Then I process 3 on a normal year. I keep two and give my parents and my in-laws 1/2 a deer a piece. I would give them more but that's all they will eat. I really should be more generous but when you spend a couple of grand a year chasing these animals, it's hard to swallow spending another couple of hundred to give away the fruits of your labor. JMO

I can never have too much venison in my freezer. If that day comes I'd donate to the hfh program. I think i'd be cool to watch the cats eat and I might be tempted to bring in a carcus but I couldn't waste a perfectly good deer that someone hungary could use, just to amuse myself watching a big cat eat.

I have considered Hunters for the hungary, but in my part of the woods they are over an hour and a half drive away. You also have to pay the processing fee. It is too much of a cost and a pain in the butt for me to donate. I eat all my deer, so most I would be donating is hogs. I could take them a couple hogs a week, but as I mentioned, Id go broke doing so.
