My first close call!
My buddy who scored a doe on opening day invited me to hunt his spot so I headed out with him today.
I set up my stand about 200 yards from his and we settled in for the hunt.
At about 6:00 I heard this distinct walking noise through the leaves. It kept geting louder and louder until it sound like THUNDER in my ears. My heart started pumping out of control. I just kept thinking STAY still do not M...o....v...e. I finally turned my head very slowly to the left to see what I knew must be a deer. I look over and see a beautiful, healthy, brown, partridge!!! I almost flipped. It was extremely exciting and a let down.
I waited out the evening and met up with my buddy on the way out. I assumed he saw nothing just like me, WRONG. At about 6:35 I had heard some strange snorting noises behind me and guess what he had 3 does right under his stand. Because he already got a doe he wasn't going to shoot.
I was so disapointed since I'd love a shot at a doe.
Well there is always tomorrow.
